Sotomayor

Sonia Sotomayor will be sworn in as a judge to the highest court in the land. Many conservatives are decrying her judicial philosophy based on quotes and decisions from the past. Should they be worried? Justice David H. Souter-whom she is replacing- was nominated and confirmed under George H.W. Bush- consistently ruled for the conservative cause his first year. Soon after he became one of the left's most concupiscent voices for the left. Do you think Sotomayor will vote along ideological lines or will she surprise everyone?

Obama-Care

I love it! Go Kudlow!

What Kudlow expressed is this short clip is exactly what I and many Americans fear when it comes to government and heath care. Little choice, bureaucrat physicians, and big costs. I just don't get it. We have two wars, a crumbling economy, Gitmo, Joe Biden and a host of other national security issues. Why does a one trillion dollar heath care bill need to be passed by August?

Big Top Politics

I hope everyone is having a great summer!

I am making this post to establish a relationship between all of us here at The Diaspora and a new political blog that I am co-authoring with Doug Kuzniar. Many of us have much to say concerning the current political climate and I know that we have more than a few brilliant minds to bring together in conversation. The new blog is called Big Top Politics, and its purpose is to bring people together in serious conversation regarding various political topics. Our hope is that along the way people can help each other gain in-depth knowledge that today's media doesn't get into.

The political landscape of the United States has become a complete and utter circus. From partisan bickering and cultural warfare to unilateral invasions, the world's view of America has waned in recent years. Join us under the Big Top where we call out those that err and refocus attention on a more suitable path.

We can't wait to see you there!

Sanford, Palin and the Media

Over the last month we have seen one politician (Sanford) fall from grace and another (Palin) step down from an elected position. The last month of news coverage has sealed the fate of the "media" in my mind. They have become the most asinine and debased institution in this country. Nothing valuable was said about each politicians predicament and as usual just blew smoke up America's ass.

I didn't know anything about Sanford before his love tryst in Argentina. What I learned after the story broke was that a man with copious amounts of power screwed up. I don't condone it but I don't think any of us can imagine the pressure and the lack of true accountability that goes with such a position of power.

I have never cared for Sarah Palin. The McCain campaign painted her as Laura Ingalls with spunk. She has given interviews with less than flattering results just as any one of us would probably do if we were on the road 6 days a week and being berated with attacks. I think Stanley Fish says it best when it comes to Palin's pain:

What say you?
